My ALS Journey: 2/n
As promised, here is what happened in the last three weeks.
Let me start with the more pleasing things.
Classes, a Workshop, and a Presentation
In the last two weeks, I gave three-days online classes and did my worldwide C++ mentoring on Friday. This week was special. On Monday at the “Embedded Software Engineering Kongress” in Sindelfingen, I gave a one-day workshop about templates. I had more than 100 participants. Additionally, I present my talk “40 Jahre Evolution: Von Funktionen zu Coroutinen” to 250 participants. All of that was a lot of fun and empowered me. I also enjoyed talking with my (C++) friends. Thanks a lot to my wife Beatrix, who supported me.
A Bathroom Accident
Two weeks ago, I had an accident in my bathroom when leaving the shower. I’m not sure if I lost my consciousness or my balance, but I crashed with my right eye on my right knee. Nothing serious happened, but I look like a boxer after a lost fight.
Two weeks later, the colors are almost gone.
My Weekly Routine
There is a lot I have to manage in this new phase of my life. Restructure my company, make weekly visits to doctors and orthopedics, and participate in four therapies each week. This is quite a challenge besides the classes and mentoring I provide.
ALS-Centrum Ulm
On the 11th of January 2024, I will visit the ALS-centrum in Ulm. Afterward, I hope that I will better understand the progression of my ALS. Additionally, I hope for additional medicaments and trials to participate.
